The Wrecking Crew

Music lovers will be astonished at the influence The Wrecking Crew wielded over rock and pop music in the 1960s and early 1970s. These unsung instrumentalists were the de-facto backing band on hit records by The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, Sonny & Cher, Elvis, The Monkees and many more. These dedicated musicians brought the flair and musicianship that made the American “West Coast Sound” a dominant cultural force around the world.

  1. If I think about millions of people, and all the hours through all the years that they heard, enjoyed, loved and lived to this music – to have put that much joy into this world – I know what it is to be in absolute awe of another human being – people that could, and did, do that.

  2. Denny, that was such a beautiful and insightful tribute to your father and the other amazing musicians of that time, which will never happen like that again, but live on forever. I thank you so sincerely.

  3. I remember back in the 70's when my copy of Guitar Player Magazine showed up in the mail the first thing that I went for was Tommy Tedesco's column.

  4. Thank you for this great video for the rest of the story as Paul Harvey used to say. Songs that I grew up with and love to this day.

  5. To those of us who truly loved music and learned to play instruments, they were not unknown at ALL. They were our heroes and sheroes and we spent countless hours practicing what they played. We knew who they were and we loved them. Still do. Thank you for this lovely work!

  6. Thanks Denny for your effort on making this movie it’s very important to me as it’s part of my own personal growing up it’s an awesome documentary! You killed it!

  7. Thank you SO MUCH for putting this together. I never knew anything about the Wrecking Crew until a couple years ago I searched for "who played piano in Bridge Over Troubled Water". That was so amazing, and then to find how they made hundreds of other pieces great and usually received no credit at all. I feel like that's not right, when someone contributes to music, their name belongs with it. Not as song writer, but credit belongs in writing along with the song writer. The Wrecking Crew loved what they did, they did what they loved, they saw their impact on music, and that plus they made some money at it but not their fair share by any means. And here a little credit is finally awarded. Not enough. I will echo what was said more than once here "Do what you love". Let go of the credit, the money, you live once and if you can afford it, just do what you love and maybe you'll make a living at it. And when I hear those pieces I'll always hear the Wrecking Crew!

  8. Women should not be allowed to that to men and it happens so frequently.
Especially these no talent women, you did nothing to earn all of that money so you don’t deserve half and nothing close to it.
You definitely deserve to have the kids taken care of and you shouldn’t have to worry if the man is still making great money but it doesn’t stay the amount no matter what and you don’t deserve half of whatever it is forever.
It’s BS how many times women get money they’d never come close to have ever earning without F’n that man and now you think you’re unhappy so you get half , @ least.
    Give me a break.

  9. Everyone & everything was so original back then.
That ended in the 90’s , that was the lady of the originality, now days everyone is the same and wants to be like everyone else , they have no authentic personality.

  10. How I love this film but the music. It was, along with MoTown, was the soundtrack of my life. The greed of the banks destroyed it all turning sheer fun and inventiveness and genuine show biz into political agenda ridden computer "music" twerking ass sludge. These people had marvelous integrity and every note can be savored a million times over. I NEVER tire of the sheer output of both camps. And there were others. Chess, Muscle Shoals — what a time in America.

  11. I think I saw this on HuLu 1st but I’ve watched it a few times.
I love it. It’s so nostalgic, reminds me of being a kid and hearing the music my parents played.

  12. Loved the video! I learned a lot about the music of my youth! I'm 70 now and lived through this era, and loved the entire culture–its gone and will never return.
One small glitch–The "Rolls" Hal is driving is a custom car with a Rolls-looking grille, not a Rolls-Royce. I have no complaint–he was a genius, but for some reason I am compelled to point out this one little glitch.
