28. I don't why but I feel like these voices, the echos are kind of haunting you and telling that it was you, who was the problem. Like these echos were the reason of sleepless nights. The lines like " I guess sometimes we all get, some kind of haunted,some kind of haunted and I never think of him, except on midnights like this " also tells that these voices were kind of haunting her and reminding him of her.
    Idk that's the theory I thought of when I heard it.

    This line could mean being in this industry might seem like a perfect paradise, a fairytale, or a dream for most people, but it's not. There's a lot of things that people don't see. A dark side no one talks about. A position everyone dreams to be in but realizes it's not the same thing you dreamed of. It's different when you are the one in that position. The "my boy was a montage" line could also be referring to Joe since he is an actor.

    Midnight rains are usually not noticed since it happens in the middle of the night when most people are asleep. This describes her change. Unnoticeable but it happens. Just like midnight rains you don't realize that it rained until the next morning where the floor is wet, same goes for her changes you don't realize the tiny changes she makes until she has turned into a completely different person. Based on this story, she changed into someone who seeks fame, someone who craves for attention. Throughout all of this he still stayed the same. If you take this line literally it means nothing changed about him. But it could also mean how you felt about him didn't change. Despite the changes you've made, despite the person you've become, you still feel the same way about him, he's still your sunshine, he's still the same person you knew.

    Keep in mind that this is just how I interpret the lyrics. It may or may not be the reason Taylor wrote them. I was bored and randomly thought of this so I typed it.
