The Hunt for Red October

Based on Tom Clancy’s bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, The Hunt For Red October seethes with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands. A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it – because the entire Russian naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. The hunt is on!

  1. 31:23 – 4,000 yards my ass… those boats are no more than 700 yards apart. They're about 5 or 6 boat lengths apart (based on the Los Angeles class boat, which is 362 feet long – 362 x 6 = 2,172 feet… divide by three = 726 yards). I know… it's pedantic but, come on… as a former navy submariner, I got to bitch about something!

  2. Interesting the timing of the release of this on youtube , the Russians can park a few hundred middles off our coast , meanwhile a fleet of Chinese cargo ships sit off our coast loaded with steel shipping containers – Club K systems ?

  3. As good as this movie is & as fun as it is to watch, I still highly recommend the book.
And as far as a movie holding true to the book – which is hard to do for any book let alone a Clancy book – this movie does a very good job
