Based on Tom Clancy’s bestseller, directed by John McTiernan (Die Hard) and starring Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin, The Hunt For Red October seethes with high-tech excitement and sweats with the tension of men who hold Doomsday in their hands. A new technologically-superior Soviet nuclear sub, the Red October, is heading for the U.S. coast under the command of Captain Marko Ramius (Connery). The American government thinks Ramius is planning to attack. A lone CIA analyst (Baldwin) has a different idea: he thinks Ramius is planning to defect, but he has only a few hours to find him and prove it – because the entire Russian naval and air commands are trying to find him, too. 31:23 – 4,000 yards my ass… those boats are no more than 700 yards apart. They're about 5 or 6 boat lengths apart (based on the Los Angeles class boat, which is 362 feet long – 362 x 6 = 2,172 feet… divide by three = 726 yards). I know… it's pedantic but, come on… as a former navy submariner, I got to bitch about something!

Interesting the timing of the release of this on youtube , the Russians can park a few hundred middles off our coast , meanwhile a fleet of Chinese cargo ships sit off our coast loaded with steel shipping containers – Club K systems ?

My absolute favorite Sean Connors movie. Truly a phenomonal cast of actors. I have to watch this movie every year, I love it that much.
As good as this movie is & as fun as it is to watch, I still highly recommend the book.
And as far as a movie holding true to the book – which is hard to do for any book let alone a Clancy book – this movie does a very good job
